What is Hookah?

Ladies and Gentlemen sorry we have been away from the blogging world for awhile, but relax we are back to educate you all a little bit on the culture of hookah and where it all started. The origin of hookah can be dated back to hundreds of years ago. Its earliest traces were found in the North Western provinces of India alongside the border of Pakistan in the state of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Many people believe that an iranian physician raised concerns about smoking and how hazardous to the health it could have been to the human body. He developed a system of smoking tobacco which allowed smoke to be passed through water so it could be purified.
It began to gain popularity and became a status symbol for Indian aristocracy and gentry. In the Arab world people smoke it for celebrations and different traditions.

**Here is an explanation of how the hookah actually works

The jar at the bottom of the hookah is filled with water sufficient to submerge a few centimeters of the body tube, which is sealed tightly to it. Deeper water will only increase the inhalation force needed to use it. Tobacco is placed inside the bowl at the top of the hookah and then a foil or charcoal screen with a burning charcoal is placed on top. Some cultures cover the bowl with perforated tin foil or a metal screen to separate the coal and the tobacco, which minimizes inhalation of coal ash with the smoke. This may also reduce the temperature the tobacco is exposed to, in order to prevent burning the tobacco directly.

When one inhales through the hose, air is pulled through the charcoal and into the bowl holding the tobacco. The hot air, heated by the charcoal vaporizes (not burns) the tobacco, thus producing smoke, which is passed down through the body tube that extends into the water in the jar. It bubbles up through the water, losing heat, and fills the top part of the jar, to which the hose is attached. When a smoker inhales from the hose, smoke passes into the lungs, and the change in pressure in the jar pulls more air through the charcoal, continuing the process.

If the hookah has been lit and smoked but has not been inhaled for an extended period, the smoke inside the water jar may be regarded as "stale" and undesirable. Stale smoke may be exhausted through the purge valve, if present. This one-way valve is opened by the positive pressure created from gently blowing into the hose. It will not function on a multiple-hose hookah unless all other hoses are plugged. Sometimes one-way valves are put in the hose sockets to avoid the need to manually plug hoses. ***

Now that you know the operation of Hookah I'm sure you are wondering the difference between Hookah and cigarettes. Well to start many medical professionals believe hookah does not contain as many toxins as cigarettes so it is not as bad for your health. It also contains FLAVORED tobacco called shisha. At Oasis we have a plethora of flavors you should try and a lot of combinations and things you can add-on to your hookah to increase the flavor. Oasis has many techniques that we could show you to tailor the hookah to your liking. So come out to Oasis and try it, besides you can finally experience something you may not have before from another culture and it is a relatively cheap night out compared to other nightlife options. The owners of Oasis Hookah Bar (Jesse and RB) decided to bring Hookah to Omaha because of the atmosphere it provides. They loved it so much that they wanted people in Omaha,NE to experience it. The atmosphere allows people to enjoy each others' company through conversation and laughter while hookah is used to create a relaxing and enjoyable environment. Where else in Nebraska can you go out and have a night with family and friends without individuals spilling drinks on you all night? Don't worry I'll wait.....Thats right!!! Oasis is one of the only places you can come and start or finish the night exactly how you wanted without people falling all over you. That is what hookah provides, a fun and relaxing atmosphere. So if you haven't been to Oasis because you don't know what hookah is please stop by and expand your horizons. Hookah is an experience you won't forget and at Oasis it is what YOU make it. We are your break from the Ordinary!!!

One Week Down

So it's been one full week since we have opened our doors and I must say, we are very excited by the warm reception the city has given us. When opening up Oasis we hoped to bring something to Omaha the likes of which this city has never seen. A good place where you can study in the early evening or wild out during the twilight of the night. A place where different culutres across various generational gaps could come together to listen to a live band perform jazz, or rock, or even hip-hop in an enviroment that is as inviting as it exciting, and I think we created that.
Hookah is a very community focued event where you come together with your friends, sit back and enjoy yourselves. I know that we have been enjoying ourselves and it appears that you all have been enjoying yourselves too, despite the fact that it can get a little warm in there. We are already looking forward to some bigger moves for Oasis in the next weeks and months ahead and we hope that you will accompany us as we make Omaha into your true Oasis
